Bayamon Central University is a Catholic faith institution of higher education, in the tradition of the Dominican Order, as guided by the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas. It offers academic courses and degrees, at the graduate and undergraduate levels, in the fields of the Liberal Arts, the sciences, professional careers and technology to young and adult students. As a Puerto Rican university community, the University is identified with the cultural values and the social redemption of the country, and at the same time it opens itself to brotherly and universal solidarity. In the attainment of the university goals - research, teaching and service, among others, the University nurtures the holistic development of the human being in the spiritual, community and professional dimensions, as well as in the academic and cultural realms. Said development is achieved within a Christian-humanistic perspective, organically integrating human knowledge, social commitment and the Gospel message. The harmonious communion between faith, life and culture is nourished by an interdisciplinary dialogue, in accord with the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas and the centuries old tradition of the Dominican Order. It also provides opportunities for an education which fosters the development of critical thinking. It educates citizens who are both forged by a sound scale of ethical and religious values and formed in the rigor of the scientific principles, methods and experiences. In the above mission statement, BCU declares the human and social values to which it is committed. The mission statement serves as the basis for the design, selection and implementation of educational, administrative and student service programs, and provides the basis for the implementation of policies on admissions, administrative matters, and student services.
