Universidad del Turabo is a non profit institution of Higher Education located fifteen miles southeast of San Juan with University Centers in Yabucoa, Cayey, Naguabo, Ponce and Isabela. It is a professionally oriented institution that offers Thechnical Certificates, Associate, Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral degrees. The institution has 14,000 students, one hundred and fifty-eight full time professors (45% hold a doctoral and 55% a master's degree) and two hundred and forty part-time professors. Universidad del Turabo fulfills its mission by imparting knowledge through excellence in teaching, discovering new knowledge, and solving problems through research, fostering activities and innovations, recruiting and developing quality human resources, as well as promoting community involvement, cultural, development and sports competitiveness. The eight strategic themes that guide the university's academic development are Engineering, Environment & Science, Technology, Health, Education, Business, Public Affairs, and Internationalization. These themes are focused on maintaining ever present the University's commitment to quality student services and management, and the recognition of cultural diversity. The University's priorities are to graduate a well educated, technologically sophisticated, diverse student body, who can think critically and contribute to a changing world; to continue to enhance undergraduate and graduate teaching, while broadening and strengthening professional programs; to promote research and creative activities that contribute to the vital social, educational, cultural, economic, health, environmental, scientific and technological foundation of the 21st century; and participate actively in the resolution of critical needs and problems of the global society in the aforementioned areas through applied research and community service.
